Is freedom inherent to democracy?
Read the Un-Amended Constitution of the United States. 1. Only white male landowners can vote 2. Slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person for the purpose of apportioning the number of Representatives for each state. 3. Senators were selected by state legislators. 4. There was no Bill of Rights, which is the only part of the Constitution that limits the power the government can exercise over the people. Also, various laws made it clear that women were considered a man's property. And finally, which form of democracy are you asking about? Agonistic Pluralism Anticipatory Athenian Bioregional Christian Consensus Constitutional Defensive Deliberative Demarchy Democratic dictatorship Direct Dominant-party system Economic E-democracy Emergent Grassroots Illiberal Interactive Intra-Party Islamic Jacksonian Jeffersonian Liberal Market Messianic Multiparty. Non-partisan Parliamentary Participatory Radical Religious Representative Republican Social Sociocracy Sortition Soviet Totalitarian Westminster ????? Side: Bill of rights are all right
The United States is not a Democracy! it a representative Republic. The Constitution may not have been perfect from the start but the founding Fathers knew adjustments would be needed and made provisions for just that. As for Senators, in the beginning they represented the State! not the people. Is freedom inherent to Democracy? maybe not but its the best the world has to offer. Side: Bill of rights are all right

Due to the confusion of "freedom" and "democracy", I would like to clarify: Democracy: The system of government of the republican nature where people have either a direct say in their government (through a plebiscite) or indirect say (through duly elected representatives). Freedom: Being free. I.e. having no masters upon birth, nor any other time in life. Bosses do not count as masters because you can walk away from them. It might get a little fuzzy when one's life becomes threatened if they wish to leave the relationship (say a gang), but other than that, that is what I mean by Freedom. Another important quality of freedom would have to be social, political, and legal equality between all citizens. Side: No
