Is a Global Government Organization a Good Thing?

Is a global government organization a good thing in the modern world. It could be like the UN or the League of Nations, but not necessarily that. Either more or less powerful. What if it requires giving up some "national rights" in favor of "global"/"universal" rights?

Every country has it's own needs and wants, because every country is different. Some countries are more poverty stricken than others. Some countries are more populated than others. Some countries contain more diseases than others. Again, all countries are different and therefore require different things.

Think about it: if one government rule came over the entire world, then how do they decide what to focus on first? Do National Governments need to report to this new overruling Government? For one Government to try and take action in one particular country will leave others deprived. If this Government acts on its own, then how could it possibly hope to make a positive difference?

Next question: how do we choose who represents this government? That is basically choosing a President of Earth, and will be full of naught but biased and cultural votes. Every country will want their culture standing at the head of this Government, which will lead to many conflicts between Nations. However, if we chose not to have one individual represent this Government, but rather a certain amount of people (I.E one from every country), then wouldn't that be basically the same as the United Nations? We couldn't turn around and say that this "group" of representatives can be all from one country, because again, we would run into similar problems to those made by an election towards a President of Earth. Suppose that if there were a president of Earth, and an American became President, wouldn't that outrage other countries? Imagine the conflict resulting from that!

A Global Government Organization would be a foolish creation, because there would be too many resulting conflicts with too much pressure because of too many problems worldwide. We should allow National Governments to continue to work within their country, and allow the UN to solve the worldwide problems that currently, and will later in life, exist.

I believe the debate is about a global government organization.

You seem to be talking about 1 government for the entire world.

Either way though. none of the reasons you give make much sense.

Not that I think there should be one government for the entire world but,

every point you make about the world as a whole, could easily be applied to any one country now, which does presumably have 1 government.

ex.

The US has several states with different needs. We have several cultures. We have rich and poor neighborhoods.

All of the reasons for which you question one world government you could also question one US government.

In fact, your logic leads to a slippery slope by which a government could only work if it governed only people who all have the same culture, religion, skin color, and income.

I mean if not "how do we choose who represents this government?"

I'm not saying you are wrong. I am saying though that your reasons do not make a lot of sense.

Could it not be like the organization of a country now? With cities, then states/provinces/territories, then nations, then world? I see where it could get a little hairy with different cultural groups competing for a single position. A President of Earth probably wouldn't work (at least not at the moment). But the UN really doesn't have very much power or influence, relative to the amount of countries it represents and what it's supposed to do. Should it be given more power, to enforce sanctions, to deal with crimes against humanity, to make sure people live respectfully towards each other? Or is its amount of power at an appropriate level?
